monday, evening

[ so he didn’t go visit him on sunday. something about wanting to clear his own head and getting some real sleep, something about not wanting dazai to see these visits as rewards.

but after talking to atsushi, the last thing he got was rest and a clear mind. and now, with the added motive, oda just knows that this will be another restless evening—so he might as well talk to dazai.

he knocks on the door, and waits. ]

[guileturncoat]

[The door swings open, revealing...]

Ah, Oda-san! Did you somehow know that it was movie night?

[It's Dazai, in pajamas (normal stripey ones, with bandages on underneath them), with a bowl of popcorn.]

[odasaku]

I didn’t.

[ he says it simply, not showing his confusion over dazai looking so...casual. like a teenager, actually. ]

If you’re too busy, then I’ll leave.

[guileturncoat]

Nono, you must stay! Come enjoy some classic American cinema with me.

Or sitting on the other couch pretending I don't exist if you want. But that just means no popcorn for you.

[odasaku]

[ if oda had a stronger will, he would've just turned around and walked away.

but this is still oda and, for some reason, he can't find it in himself to say no to dazai's request. it's not like he's ever been a fan of movies either--it's just something that won't let him say no. perhaps his own conscience. ]

Alright. One movie.

One movie is enough!

[Because in his books, the entire LOTR trilogy, extended editions counts as one movie.

But no seriously, they're going to be watching the original Terminator. And regardless of if Oda sits next to him on the couch (the TV is on a wall and visible from either couch) or sits on the other one, Dazai is going to be focused on the movie while shoving popcorn in his face.]

[ oda would have watched the LOTR trilogy while comparing it constantly with the books, so perhaps it's a blessing that dazai didn't choose that movie.

oda does sit down on the other couch, not feeling comfortable enough to share a couch with someone that he's supposed to dislike. someone that he does dislike, even if atsushi implied that this was not always supposed to be the case.

but that's not true, is it? even if there is some other version of him that had befriended dazai, that person was not him. that person was another sakunosuke oda, with his own life, troubles, and friends-- one of them dazai, according to atsushi. whatever hurt that dazai showed whenever oda said something blunt was simply because he looked and sounded similar to that sakunosuke oda--odasaku--that dazai knew.

if dazai takes a moment to look towards oda's direction, it'll become painfully obvious that oda is too lost in his own thoughts to even be remotely paying attention to the movie. ]

[Dazai is actually pretty engrossed in the movie, which might be surprising given that this is an American movie and Dazai hadn't even been to America before coming to the Foundation. But he's happily munching away on his popcorn and watching the movie, oblivious to Oda's inner turmoil.

At least, until one of the action sequences starts. That's when Dazai looks to Oda to see if he's enjoying it, and sees that Oda isn't even paying attention at all. That makes Dazai go from "elated to share something he genuinely enjoys with Oda" to "miffed that Oda doesn't also enjoy it", and he tosses a piece of popcorn at Oda's forehead.]

thursday......afternoon!

[odasaku]

[ strange, right? however it's clearly oda's voice that's calling for him while knocking on the door at sometime in the afternoon. ]

Dazai, it's me. I brought you food.

[ he has a tupperware in one of his hands, with very good leftover food that akira made. ]

[Is it the curry?

Dazai suspects it's the curry. He's sniffing at the container to be sure.]

I do appreciate everyone trying to bring me food, but did you know that Va-nyan-tas tried to burn my mouth this week?

[odasaku]

... You don’t like curry either?

[ this is so sad. even oda looks a little hurt by it. why does everyone have bad taste!!!!!! ]

It’s good.

It's spicy. I still can't believe you can eat such spicy stuff.

[odasaku]

You’re missing out.

[ he sighs. ]

But I guess I can ask Kurusu to teach me to make something mild for you.

[ oda then reaches—to pinch dazai’s cheek. ]

You’re practically skin and bones, after all.

[guileturncoat]

[Wow rude! Dazai makes a pouty face, but he doesn't pull away.]

I won't be soon enough. People keep bringing me food! Saki-san, Ellie-chan, Atsushi-kun, Vanitas, the list never ends!

[odasaku]

[ oda does pull his arm back, nodding with a thoughtful expression. ]

It means they care about you. After all, it’d be troublesome if you didn’t eat properly and passed out or something.

[guileturncoat]

I'm not going to pass out. I'm much better about taking care of myself than I was back then.

['Back then'. Back in his world, with his Oda and his Ango.]

saturday evening

[odasaku]

[ it’s only so long that oda can go without visiting dazai once the hanged man game is over. after a couple of hours of hearing dazai’s desperate voice play on repeat in his head, he decides that maybe he should visit him.

oda knocks on the door, looking perhaps a little too desperately. ]

[guileturncoat]

[A very tired Dazai opens the door to allow Oda in. He'll at least make sure the door closes behind Oda before he gives up and goes over to sink down onto the couch.]

I'm so tiiiiiired...

[As whiny as ever, it seems. Even with the new bandages.]

[odasaku]

I can imagine.

[ oda goes to sit next to him on the couch, his expression actually one of concern. ]

You got burned?

[guileturncoat]

A little. It wasn't as bad as it looked though. It should heal in a week or so.

You know, I didn't expect them to blow up my phone in a literal sense.

[odasaku]

...I don't think anyone would've expected that.

[ he sighs. ]

What did they tell you? Not happy how you're running things?

[guileturncoat]

It's not important. They have their opinions, and I have mine.

[odasaku]

Dazai.

[guileturncoat]

It is what it is, Odasak- Oda-san. I knew the risks when I took this job. I accepted them. I'm not going to complain about them now that I'm facing repercussions.
